Dignity Starts with a toilet

Our Objectives

Partnerships

We partner with existing companies to provide new toilets to 1 school per year in rural Kenya and work with partners in designing and implementing a training curriculum for students and staff..

Education

We plan to organise A ‘day of dignity’ when the most active student ambassadors are rewarded and schools with the highest rating are recognized and rewarded too.

Accountability.

We provide a monitoring  plan where the state of the toilets are checked and gamification criteria where the schools with the cleanest and well maintained toilets receive a rating.

Our Story

Limited or lack of well maintained toilets in schools around the country leads to outbreak of illnesses among students, unclean learning environments, absenteeism from school, and sometimes even death. The aim of this project is to reduce the toilet to student ratio by at least 50%. The action plan involves working with one school each year by (1) partnering with existing sanitation providers to build new toilets, (2) implementing a sanitation curriculum in rural schools, and (3) designing and implementing an accountability model that recognizes and rewards schools that uphold high sanitation standards. The model will also leverage on online platforms to reach out for support from the general public and donors as well as maintain a website to highlight the performance of schools in upholding high sanitation standards.
